WOW! Merci beaucoup.

------------

Wow! Thanks alot. I'd like to meet you for the "Fête de la Nouvelle-France" but I'm going on tour in Europe in August with my orchestra.

By any chance do you know if there's an opening anywhere for a Trumpet player? Nothing would make me prouder than to play for the 400th anniversary of my province Very Happy

Wow, that's cool... my son, who has the same name as you, also plays the trumpet!!!

As for an opening for a trumpet player, I can't help you... we are only connected on the historic stuff.

Cheers !!

To get back on topic... I read a few reviews from "Le Guide de L'Auto 1983" and "Chroniques automobiles 1986" (or something like that) about Ladas and I'd like to share some of the information I yielded with you to see if it's true.

Signet:
-Stiff steering
-Good suspension
-Terrible front seats
-Average reliablility
-Outdated design (that's the beauty of it Very Happy)
-Economical
-VERY loud
-Unbeatable visibility
-Aerodynamic noises

Niva:
-EVEN LOUDER
-Inexpensive (especially nowadays)
-Unsafe handling at high speeds
-Bad seats
-Not as good offroad capabilities as initially expected
-Elevated gas consumption for the engine it's equipped with.

Here is what an american 4x4 magazine had to say about a new 1979
niva they tested in germany:
The good:
-lots of standard equipment
-good ground clearance
-good suspension
-good seats
-would climb 58% grade
-good fuel economy
-inexpensive
The bad:
-38ft. turning circle
-narrow tires
-engine a bit lacking in low rpm torque
-driveshaft vibration
-drivetrain noise
-noisy engine-(86db at 5500rpm/3rd gear)

gave these performance #'s
0-60 mph: 22 sec
0-75 mph: 45 sec
top speed: 76 mph.
said the niva understeered some on pavement but was stable and easy
to control when driving fast over bumpy, rutted terrain.
As far as the signet(2105,2107) being an outdated design they are based
on 1966 fiat design,the '66 fiat 124 was a very advanced,breakthrough
design so the lada was actually quite advanced when introduced in 1970
(vaz started taking orders in jan.1969).

What were they expecting.. it to get stuck and thus verifying to themselves that the money spent on their 4wd Rangers and S10's was not in vain Shocked ???
The only vehicle i ever had a good off-road fun with that was in a comparable price range to the niva was a suzuki samurai.

I have seen some samurais set up as "rock crawlers"-often using pre-'85
toyota pickup axles with a tracker/sidekick 1.6l swapped in.
haven't yet seen a niva *censored* rock crawler in action but that would
be cool.

I found loads of Lada reviews (in French only) at my school library so I'll scan and upload them soon (most likely Friday).
