argenta's gearbox will place the gearlever in the spot where handbrake is now. you neen a "short" shifter from 131/132. it bolts straight onto argenta box instead of it's long shifter

well djape1977 i think its better to shorten the lada handbrake but first i have to see what malevolent encounters i will have once i start fitting the engine.

Considering brakes i am gonna fit lancia disc and calipers both to the front and rear. what is your idea ppl?

i am really worrying about the rear suspensions.
mounting the coilsprings on the argenta diff is quiet simple but the mounting plate on the argenta diff is slightly angled towards the centre of the diff while the lada top coil mounting is flat.

since the argenta has the shock absorber inside the coil spring i have in some way to fabricate something on the lada to fit the top part of the shock absorber? whats ur ideas ppl?

should i go the coilover way?? or is there something cheaper??

today removed turbo from manifold and started to trial fit the engine. both exhaust and throttel body foul with the fire wall since its a fwd engine. exhaust has to be made new and throttel body repositioned to the other side of the inlet.

as you can see it is sitting 5 inches further to the front. the engine block has 2 mounting positions on both sides and will use the one that brings the engine further back to the fire wall so it will help a bit my lada from sinking in hard cornering [img][/img]

about the rear suspension:
standard lada rear suspension but with a bit shorter and stiffer springs and two way shocks works quite well. fat tyre are a must. i run 205/60/13 soft compound.
on the other hand, argenta/132 rear axle is MUCH stronger and more durable. mating it with lada's panhard rod would make a winning combo although i'd make a modification so that shocks go thru the spring as on fiat. makes a world of difference. i have fiats 131 and 132 and can tell you that rear end is much more controlable then on lada. no nasty habit of jumping sideways on bumps in bends.

about the engine:
does your engine have a blank plate on engine block for a block mounted distributor? as on 131, 132 and argenta?
if not, then you need a cambox from 124 sport with a sidemounted distributor. also, engine must go further back in order to make a room for radiator. on my twincam lada space between rear side of engine block and firewall is about 1cm.

also, since you seem to have an argenta available, i think you should have taken it's engine for a base. it would place the distributor in the right spot, exaust would be on the right hand side as in lada and you'd have adequate sump for RWD aplication.

winning combo would be:
1. argenta engine block
2. lancia turbo crankshaft and pistons. (forged)
3. argenta distributor and sump
4. argenta engine head.
5. valves (sodium cooled), valve guides (steel) and valve seats from lancia turbo
6. camshafts from lancia turbo
7. inlet and exaust manifolds from lancia turbo.

block - no mods needed
crank - small mod needed to fit to argenta gearbox
pistons - need valve space remachined to fit bigger inlet valves (head rotated 180" compared to lancia)

brakes: just fit rear disc brakes and adjust brake bias valve to make 60% front and 40"rear brake balance. no need to modify front brakes.
to fit rear brakes would be easyest to find argenta turbodiesel or volumex rear axle. they already have rear disc brakes, anty roll bar and 3,43:1 diff ratio. you could also use a fiat 132 1800 rear axle which also has disc brakes bur no anty roll bar and has 4,1:1 diff ratio. mixing of components from 132 and argenta is possible since they use same rear axle housing and therefore have interchangable components

hi mate tnx for accurate reply Smile
well my argenta engine has the distributor in the block and may use a coil pack or what ever is it called rather than change the cambox and block the distributor hole.

as for the diff i will be using the argenta lower stabiliser bars and the top once of the argenta as well instead of the lada with the panhard rod of the lada and this will make one hell of a stiff diff.i suspect that i have a 3,7 and a 3,5 diff as for the 3,5 is only what i taught from the number there is on the casing on the diff but i have to open and count the teeth as for brakes those options are not availabel in malta since we never had any of those cars maybe the fiat 1800 diesel but i will try to fit something from recent cars.

front i found from this forum that tar-ox make a disc and pad combo which might be a resonable upgrade but as u said i will stay on ur advice.

after my wedding now i found time for my project and some time to share with you ppl. trial fitted the gearbox to the engine but the bottom part of the flange does not fit straight so have to make a spacer for both bottom bolts to fit ( shown in red circle).

today i swapped the lancia sump with the argenta one. all bolts fitted in place except for the front 4 bolts under the crank pulley. 2 need a re-drill and the other 2 some widening both in the sump and its an easy job not considering the modification i have to make to fit the oil strainer which really a tough one but will do it when i am a bit calm Cool

by the end of this week i will trial fit the engine again in the lada and will make the hole in the bulckhead for the distributor which has to be apparox 4.5 inches or more considering also the high tension leads exiting all on one side.

sorry for poor quality!

you need a sump from fiat 131 or 132. same bolt pattern as argenta sump, fits lada engine bay perfectly
