Ok, so my niva was sold in Canada as a 97 "cossack", and I've looked around but haven't been able to find any images of factory roof rack. I now they put in a bunch of stuff at the bearers when they arrived, like D.R.L. and the most annoying buzzer on the world when you open the door and the keys are in the ignition. But does anyone else have a rack on there car? Was mine an dealer add on for canada? Or an aftermarket add on?

As you can see, I'm missing one of the side to side bars. I like the low profile of it and would really like another bar so I can put a basket on it. But so far having problems finding a parts car that has one. Any help is much appreciated, as we all know, it's hard to come across a vast amount of information on our little Russian cars, but we're working on it!

No, that is NOT a factory roof rack. It is indeed a rack added by the Canadian importer.

I had a similar rack on my 2104 but removed it in favour of something "beefier". Unfortunately I don't have any of these parts left as I believe I sold them to another Lada owner.

Cheers !!

Both of my 97 Niva's have the same roof racks as yours.

Sorry no chance there. I've used one as a parts car but plan on making it road worthy in the next few months.

Hmm... how would you feel about bubbling them up and shipping to red deer? If your pulling it all apart, all I really want is the 2 bars that go side to side (so I will have a total of 3) and the little slider parts they thread into.

2 works better than one, but if I had 3 I'd feel more comfortable with it spreading the weight of a basket.

Do your cars have the sunroof too? Was my car "fully equipped"?

I pulled my "dealer" rack off in favor of eventually installing a more modern rack, and maybe some fog lights...

I can see the advantages to having a rack that is supported by the drip rail, it's folded metal close to the roof framing and I'd feel more comfortable standing on that then on the middle of a flat sheet roof.
But it's already there, and I think it looks good on the roof. Streamlined almost because the last thing a niva needs is more resistance. But there is still a million arguments for and against, it's just my personal preference. Just wait till I have my fiero spoiler mounted! Then the opinions will fly!!!

lalunette does removing the roof rack leave holes in your roof or are they just glued on?

Unfortunately the side rails were screwed in and the support rails were riveted. Sad

I used caulking to plug the holes for now but will use a more permanent method before I repaint the roof.

I'd hope it wasn't just glued on!! Laughing I'm sure there is at least 4 holes. One in each corner, but the strips, I'm not sure of... I kinda poked them but they were too solid to see if they had little locater tabs to hold them straight. But I think there way to firm to be held on buy just 2 sided tape.
