Thanks bud i'll keep your offer in mind. I'm starting to suspect a valve or piston. Compression is definitely low on #1 jug. Still haven't run a gauge on it yet but you can clearly hear the starter whiffing thru #1 on the crankover. _________________ '15 Yota Rav4

Finally had a few hours to peel apart the motor. found out why there is 0 psi compression on number 1 cylinder. Hope everyone has been well.

Hehe that is one of the more badly burned valves I have seen in a while-had a burned valve on my dodge raider, but it wasn't as bad as that one LOL |

Yeah lol. Glad to see you are still kicking around bud . I don't know how long the previous owner had been running around with a valve burnt that bad Especially as it was parked for around a decade. After cracking off the head I cannot believe in the slightest it has anywhere near the claimed 300k on it...... There isn't even a ridge in any of the cylinders and the cylinder balance on the three good ones was within 2psi of each other
Another downside i have found is the interior will have to be redone as the fabric basically crumbles when touched, A lot of the plastic panels are brittle and the rear seat locking pins broke when i pulled the handle.
Also noticed when i hooked up the fuel sending unit it reads almost full but the low fuel light stays lit (apparently it and the fuel pump were swapped out for one out of a ford or something as the power feeds are just butt spliced together and it is grounded through the chassis)
Time fer bed back to the grind tomorrow. _________________ '15 Yota Rav4

Got my parts in yesterday. spent all afternoon tearing down and changing the exhaust valve. Fired it up and it's still missing on number 1 cylinder only now instead of staying at 0 it will read between 10 and 20 pounds on the gauge. going to have to tear it down again and double check my work. I must have overlooked something.
piccy (It was supposed to be fire engine red but some arrse must have changed lids and i ended up with chevy orange..

Always read the can i guess.. lesson learned.

Got it running. Turns out after everything seated there was no lash on the exhaust valve.
Due to the shim style of valve adjustment... I was having a beer while figuring out what size shim I would have to order when the dremel tool I was holding "accidentally" fell on the exhaust valve stem and coincidentally removed just enough material to give me a little bit of lash. soo much fun driving it up and down the sidewalk on 4 cylinders.
Oh also changed the wiper switch, fixed the switch mounting block on the column with a hose clamp and re-attached the horn button.

Been busy. Used the Samara as a daily driver up until the battery bricked up. Just gotta go get a new one. Just figured i'd throw up a couple photos before i disappear into the ether again.
15 Gallon RCI Aluminum Fuel Cell.
Permanent temporary plumbing "pass me another hose clamp!)
External fuel pump
VDO fuel gauge. Dash was already all smashed up. Plastic is VERY brittle.. in all actuality the whole dashboard is just kinda sitting there.
Just to aggravate my brothers i had to do it
Doesn't look too bad for a 18 year old Lada... on the outside anyways.
Parked at work in the rain.

Dug the car out of the snow the other day. Fired right up. Only problem was the electric cooling fan isn't working. I'll have to find time to dig into it later. On a side note I might be getting a new project if the deal works out. I'll know in the next few days. _________________ '15 Yota Rav4

interested in seeing the "new project"if the deal works out might have to add a manual switch for that fan in addition to the normal thermostat-that is how I have the fan rigged on my saab 99.BTW,do big trucks still have a manual override for the fan clutch? |

Took a while. New toy should be enroute to my house later today. Samara is going down to southern Ontario for easier sale. Only due to space limitations otherwise I'd keep it. Will start a new thread with my roadkill Niva when I can.
Oops I gave it away. Ps the Samara is listed on kijiji. Ad will be updated after the move
