Hello,

I hope this isn't too late to be of any use.

I'm afraid I can't help - I don't have any experience, I'm not even North America. For other people though, it might be helpful if you could tell us if the cars are registered in US states. I have no idea, but I just guess it might make a difference whether it's US-registered or Canada-registered.

Here's a page about registration fees in California:
https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/portal/feecalculatorweb/index

And here's a calculator for registering a "non-resident" vehicle:
https://www.dmv.ca.gov/wasapp/FeeCalculatorWeb/newResidentForm.do

But, I think if you're serious about the cars, you'd better actually speak to someone at the DMV.

From the first link:
Quote:
This online service allows current and new residents of California to calculate an estimate of their vehicle registration fees, determine Vehicle License Fees (VLF) paid for tax purposes, and calculate fees for registration renewal and used vehicle purchases. For more information, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions.

An estimate will be provided based on the information entered. Fees may vary depending on the actual vehicle registration. All fees are subject to statutory change. Please call 1-800-777-0133 during normal business hours for more information.

Stay away, its a scam. The only way to have a LADA in the sates is under 25 years old exemption. What I mean it would not be possible to register the car for legal use on US roads.

some have them registered Armenians are pretty good with bending the rules and if you check youtube there are a couple rolling the streets with california plates in LA not sure how but its been done. but even if there is such way my concern is what if new laws come out the following year forcing the car to not be able to be registered again.

I'd love to see these videos of brand new Ladas in the United States. Could you post links? I've only seen videos of older Ladas in the USA (some *look* new).

I had a look at those links a while back, but didn't get around to replying. Thanks for posting them. I do wonder, though, could these be older vehicles that have been made to look new. Because not that much has visibly changed on the Nivas over the years. Or, I guess they could be newer cars that have VIN plates from older cars. As far as I am aware, you can't import and register new cars into the USA if they don't meet certain standards. Although, I know I may be completely wrong in that.

But anyway, I enjoyed the videos. Thanks for the links Smile
