anybody ever seen one, possible?
got a solid line on a 1974 240D car with lowkm on a rebuilt 4cyl N/A diesel.

i'm driving a 1985 300D 5cyl diesel for a winter beater and I know its way too big, but has anybody ever tried a 4cyl Mercedes diesel in a Niva?

Leads, info , opinions , all welcome. maybe some not appreciated, but still welcome. Smile

cheers James
did I mention how much I like diesels? Laughing

This is the ONLY reference i can find on our site to it and it's recent.... You might want to post something on the UK forum asking for information as well.

I thought this whole Mercedes engine swap thing sounded familiar... As it so happens, it is quite possible to stuff one of these babies into a Niva! Ok, maybe not the 3L one, but the 2.4 diesel out of a 240D. Sadly, the original site is long gone, but there's always the Internet Archive! Check this out:
http://web.archive.org/web/20040504044502/www.geocities.com/wanderer4x4/index2.html - click on "240D Conversion" link for full details!

If my memory serves me right, this same guy later pulled the diesel out and swapped a 2.8 MB V6 into same Niva - he claimed a top speed of close to 200 km/h with it...

Anyway, enjoy!

Cool I thought I had seen the 2.4 diesel in a Niva before. thanks for the link, it was a long wait for it to come up with my low speed but I got it. If we aren't busy at work tonite I will try to print some info off and pics.

this engine should outlast a couple Nivas.
my offer wasn't accepted but I'm close. trying to up my offer w/VW parts. play money is hard to come by on "workshare" Sad

didn't get it Sad

I offered $500 plus any vw parts he needed.
he said $650 lowest and he didn't need "any more" VW parts Laughing
I emailed him back to see if he could give me a couple weeks to come up with the rest. he emailed me back that it was sold for the $800 asking price, he had a deposit and was sitting on the deposit for a month. after that he may sell it again if guy doesn't show up. sounds fair to me Wink

I don't have my hopes up, there really aren't many of them around and I just wanted to gut it for the powertrain anyway. Very Happy

I guess the VW diesel idea will be used, whenever I get that shell Rolling Eyes
cheers James

been a long time since I've been on here but I purchased a 1981 MB240D this summer with a 4spd manual trans and have parted the car but kept the eng/trans. now I have found myself looking for a solid niva again.

now living in a rural area and no etest needed, working only 6 km from our new place so I don't need a highway vehicle anymore.

If I find myself a solid niva to build I will be back..............................

hello

if you like a niva diesel so much why dont you import one .

from france or italie, there are original 1.9 diesel nivas they made in the factory.

even turbodiesel 1.9 there are .
our club oner of the nivaclubbelgium has one

it is a peugeot engine that is in there. the horse power is from about 70 to 130 hp with the turbo engine. if you maintain it good more than 200.000 miles are no problem for this engine.!

and the original transmission is used from the gas car niva.
check out this website in france you will find the diesel version

www.leboncoin.fr/
our germany : www.mobile.de greetz rocky Very Happy

Yes A guy in BC did it about 16 years ago
He had to make a overhead rad and it looked
Kind of dumb.
Think you would be better off using a vw diesel
