http://www.gov.mb.ca/chc/press/top/2010/05/2010-05-19-115200-8600.html

The Queen of England and her hubby, the Duke of Edinburgh, are visiting Winnipeg on July 3rd...

...but what you don't know is that the historical interpretation group I belong to (aka La Compagnie de La Vérendrye) is providing an honour guard for Her Majesty !!!

Personally, I think entertaining royalty is a waste of time & money but, hey, they are VIPs on the international stage and, as a bonus, this event will give La Compagnie some good exposure.

Our press kit has gotten rave reviews and will be included in the press kit distributed to all media covering the event.

The RCMP* (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) weren't too hot about having us discharge firearms around the Queen but, apparently, someone interceded in our favour and we will be firing off one salute when she arrives !!

*Canada's version of the FBI.

Since I'm La Compagnie's un-official powder monkey, I volunteered to prepare some special loads for "Her Majesty".

Initially I was thinking a 50/50 mix of FF and FFF would be nice but I'm also thinking a 50% FF, 25% FFF and 25% FFFF mix should give me a nice homogeneous mix that will "catch" more easily than a straight-up FF load.

I'm also thinking a 125 grain load will provide a nice loud bang, especially since we are firing blanks with only paper wadding.

I will test the 2 mixes mentioned above at our Soldier School in 2 weeks and report back.

I wish they would bust their sorry asses down to commoner status and do away with that whole "royalty" sham. Princess Diana's family had a better claim to the throne than those interlopers do...

Footage of our "Feu de joie"

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/breakingnews/LIVE-BLOG-The-Royal-Visit-97515499.html

Click on "Queen unveils museum cornerstone" and the salute is at 00:25.

"The La Compagnie de la Verendrye fired a musket salute and the crowd burst into applause as the Queen, dressed in a floral skirt, a smart green jacket and a fuschia hat, walked the length of the footbridge, heading to the site of the construction of the Canadian Museum of Human Rights."

There isn't much to see but you clearly hear the booms of our muskets !!

Pics to follow...
