I was stunned to find a Lada fan page in the US, especially one which is not only devoted to Nivas. Nice surprize.

Here are some pictures about my almost new 1978 2103.

And you can see more of it: http://picasaweb.google.com/nagymacs/VAZLADA21032010Aprilis#

I also have now a 2101 from 1978, it waits for clarification of ownership, then I start to restore it.

Wow, that is a beautiful car.

Welcome to the forum.

I am in the process of restoring a '91 2104 that was my daily driver until last winter.

Thanks, although I bought it in a pretty good conditiotion from a 75 year old man, who was its first owner, with only 64000 km (40k miles), a lot had to be done on it. A major cleaning was necessary all over, especially the chrome parts, some needed to be replaced, the engine, clutch, the ignition, the valves had to be adjusted, the rims repainted, and all small damages on the paintings and chassis had to be repaired. On the picture you can see, that all its bottom side is covered with ugly black undercoat, which had to be removed from the painted parts, suspension parts and gearbox and drivetrain by solid CO2 cleaning. Now that is done, but I still need to do some works, repaint the exhaust system, repaint the suspension, replase the silencers in the front suspension, and just last month it started to consume oil, so that needs to be checked as well. The old licence plates are replicas of the car's original plates, and seems that I can get back the original documents of the car as well. Otherwise this is comlplete, it has all pieces of the original maintenance kits, the original soviet car vacuum cleaner which connects to service lamp plug, and the handbook and the warrantee papers. There are some repairs on the painting, but no element is fully repainted, on the back of the trunk still there is the original color code on glued paper.

All its parts are original except the tyres, the front windshield, which is a Finnish Nordlamex product from 1984, which was one of the very few aftermarket extras you could have during the communism and the rear drum of the exhaust.

The speciality of the car is its color, known as Coral-Red, which was mainly a western export color, it was pretty rare in the communist countries, except on the area I live as that is next to the Austrian border, and it used to be a main junction point for transferring Ladas to the west, and all damaged cars were removed from the trains there and after repaire distributed locally. That is why the car came originally on Continental radial tyres and it is equipped with a VAZ Elektronika-M type electronic ignition instead of the normal non-electronic for the eastern countries.

And of course as in all Hungarian Ladas there a "nodding dog" at the back of the car, and I plan to replace the original gear knob by a typical communist knob with a little car in it, and will install later yellow GDR AKA Electric foglights. It has an age authentic VIDEOTON RD4614 radio in it.

Luckily I'm from a family of many old car enthusiast, my father in law is the biggest of them, so he is leading all the restoration works.

Thanks.

That was a movie shooting, where some of our club members were present. It is quiet common that casting people ask classic car club members to be present with their cars on shootings. You can notice two 2103 a white and a red one. This was at a former border checkpoint to Austria, today a very deserted place, as there are no controlled borders anymore within the EU.

Another 2103! The most beautiful Lada ever made in my opinion... but then I'm biased since my family used to have one Smile

Agreed, actually my family had a Skoda 120L, and my godfather had a 2101, so of course I wanted to have a 1500, which was the BMW 5er of the age at Hungary. So I decided at the age of 7 to get one one day. Now after almost 30 years, mission accomplished, I have one, and still it is really one of the most beautiful cars ever made, despite of all its weaknesses.

Did you know that actually a 2103 Universal (Combi or Station Wagon) prototype was developed at was in 1975, but then they decided against serial production, they did not wanted to lower the prestige of car by releasing an SW version. They launched for western markets the 2102-01 which had the drivetrain, engine and inner trim of the 2103 in a 2102 chassis.

There's been a large old timer event at the weekend. It was mainly washed away by the rain, but still about 250 vehicles turned up. Some pictures:http://veteranzsiguli.hu/Galeria/2010.09.20._Pecs_Guinness/index.html#slides/P1040290.jpg
