This is just a general question as I don't own a Samara, but how hard is it to find Samara parts in Canada?

Is it down to generous and/or entrepenurial owners/enthusiasts with everything else coming from overseas, or ar some general service items and common parts available here from actual distributors?

Thanks!
Chris

Hi,

Thanks - don't have one, just doing my research first.

Honestly...and I know this can depend on so many factors, but all things being equal, how reliable are Samaras? I'm looking at one as a winter only car - perhaps only a few thousand k per year - mostly easy run-about-town driving, but wouldn't mind trying a winter TSD rally or two...

I personally don't have any experience with them. I've just got my niva.

as i said above,UNFORTUNATELY they are VERY reliable, not really anything that goes wrong with them.

great heaters for winter too.

the samara is designed by porsche, made under licence by lada.

our biggest selling thing is filters ,& winder handles (peeps keep grabbing them to close the door,& if you've ever felt the weight of samara door) especialy the 3 door one.

that's why these things are so safe in an accident.

make sure timing belt is changed at 90,000kms (as most cars) don't want to bend valves,& do waterpump at same time.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I read your earlier post, but wasn't quite sure if you were being sarcastic or not with the smiley icons...!

What is the story with the transmission? I have heard "stories" about it being fragile...is this just BS?

no problem unless you race them Wink

changing quickly from 3rd to 2nd over time can cause a synchro crunch, but driving normaly,no problems, like engine, very very strong.

we use castrol vmx-m gear oil here for them, seems to help any synchro problems (in any car with synchro crunch actually)
