there's plenty of these in my part of the world, prices vary but between 700$-1200$ gets you a decent one, and for around 2000$ you get immaculate specimen.

you could import one into US, it's a classic car so there should be no problems about lack of airbags, emmisions and such *censored*. shipping from Serbia to east coast works out at around 1500$

Hmm, that sounds approximately like the prices in Russia, or even cheaper. And are you sure about the shipping price? Sounds way too low as compared to shipping from other parts of Europe, at least from what I've heard.

checked today, definately around 1.500$
might be even cheaper than that if you find someone else to share cargo container since 2 cars can be stuffed inside or car + other stuff.

paperwork can be prepaired by shipping company, container gets sealed at customs terminal in Belgrade and gets delivered to NY harbor in about 2 months. from there on it's your job to get it tru customs etc.

tie rods replaced

new old wheels. BWA 6x13 et 13 with fulda carat assuro 185/60/13

and on the car?

of course, it couldn't be simple. in order to fit old italian wheels on lada, another 5mm distance plate must be added to clear twin piston callipers in the front. this also means that longer bolts are needed.

impressions from test drive?

tyres are superb! level of grip is fenomenal and 5cm wider track is definately improving stability.

did i ever mention that ladas are prone to idiotic and unforeseable breakdowns?

while driving today, a rattling noise started coming from the engine and before i could stop to check it out, within 15 seconds, there was a loud bang and alternator warning light came on. that was a water pump pulley coming off. interestingly enough, when i limped back home i found that three bolts holding it are tight as they should be, tight enough that i cant unbolt 'em now that there's nothing preventing water pump from spinning free. guess that i have to find some really big plyers
