Well, incredible news... I found out last week there is a Lada sitting in a storage unit in a small town 90 minutes south of where I live... and the owner is giving it to me.
It is an '87 2104 with only 40,000 kms on the clock. The owner says it is also rust-free !!!
I am going on a road trip on Sunday June 4th to retrieve this rare jewel.
The intent is to haul it back to my garage and assess what it needs in order to bring it back to life !!!
I am extremely humbled by the current owner's generosity and will do my best to live up to the trust he has in me that I will give his 2104 a good home.
So far I have arranged for the use of my older brother's Dodge Durango for the pull, rented a car hauler from U-Haul, tested the 12V electric winch my father gave me for my birthday a few years ago (to get the 2104 on the trailer) and borrowed my younger brother's bolt cutters in case the combo lock on the storage unit decides it does not want to play ball.
I'm bringing extra tow straps, chains, tie downs, my air compressor and some spare tires... just in case !!
I also have a cousin and one of my best buddies coming with in case we need to man-handle the Lada out of the storage unit and onto the car hauler.
Here are a couple pics provided by the owner when he stored the car in its present location 5 years ago !!

Looks like it is in a really nice condition, especially considering it's age! I don't even see that nice looking Ladas here, and I live in a Lada country (Finland).
Take good care of it! |

just too cool !!! does indeed look very straight and rust free from the pics thought of a name for this one yet ?Noticed it has headlamp wipers-(presuming those are an option on 2104/5/7 ?)In a 1984 Canadian brochure,2105s were shown with both the usuall European halogen lights and North American "sealed beam"headlamps. |

Yes, I'm thinking "Chyetyrye"... which is Russian for the number 4.
I am told this is what they call the 2104 in the Motherland". LOL

Every single 2104 I've run across in Canada so far has wipers... so I'm thinking it's standard ??
I removed the ones from Laduschka simnply because I was going to do a lot of work on her and did not want them damaged by accident. _________________ Richard "Lada" Loiselle

Hoarder? Oh, I hope not... I live across the backlane from one... and it's pretty bad !!
Anyhow, the '87 is safe and sound in my garage and the '91 is being driven a few times a week.
I'll have to post some more pics of the '86.
Cheers !! _________________ Richard "Lada" Loiselle

You're right, hoarder is the wrong word. Monopoly? Maybe cornering the market... That's it. _________________ -Matt

Update...
So far I've ascertained that the body and paint are in GREAT shape. There is virtually NO rust.
The undercarriage is clean and no rust there either.
The tires are new from when the car was stored. However, the rims need to be addressed. I'm thinking sandblast & powder coat.
The gas tank stinks and will need to be cleaned out and relined.
The mechanical gas pump is disconnected but still works.
The carb has corrosion everywhere. I'm going to order a new one instead of wasting my time trying to make the original one work.
The engine does move so that's a plus.
The interior is also in pretty good shape but the fabric on the seats looks tired.
Signals and headlights work but I haven't tested the starter or the alt.
So far no major eye pokers... just a solid little car that wants to get back on the road !!! _________________ Richard "Lada" Loiselle

The storage units are on cement pads but it's gravel all around them.
So... 5 years worth of gravel dust ???
Anyhow, she's nice and clean now. _________________ Richard "Lada" Loiselle

So... more investigating has revealed:
Rubber hose between gas filler tube and gas tank has dried up and broke in two when someone tried to remove it.
Need a new door sill gasket for the hatch.
Need new hatch pistons.
Bottom of driver's side passenger door card has curled up on both ends and the armrest is cracked. I'm thinking of removing the door card, wetting it and pressing it flat again. As for the armrest, I have spares from the 2 Lada wrecks I stripped for parts a few years ago.
That's it so far. _________________ Richard "Lada" Loiselle
