The latest modifications

Suspension springs from stock Niva...

This is how the car looks like now

I gain 4.5cm rear lowering

But in front there is any change...
Maybe, I'll cut a bit the front springs....

However, the internal parts are in good condition on contrary its behavior (great oil consumption and only that)...

Hi everyone,

My Lada has some changes recently...

1st Oil catch tank

2nd Gauges from 2106/Niva from randomizer_hu (voltometer and temp are on top of dashboard, in the middle)

3rd Beacause of an event about historic cars I transformed my car like 70'ies racers

And finally I want some help...I have a 4sp gearbox...I've changed the tachometer from 160 to 180...Now the top speed is around 130-140 when using the 160speedo was 150...Have I to change the speedometer drive gear at the gearbox???

no. problem is something else. have you changed the size of rear tyres lately?

all lada/fiat spedometers are 1/100 meaning that for every 100 turns of speedo cable internal gears in speedometer turn once.

in order to have accurate speedo, you'd have to have speedo drive that matches your diferential ratio and your original tyre size. if i remember corectly, your car should have 41/10 diferential and fourth gear is direct drive 1/1 (one turn of input shaft is one turn of output shaft). coupled to original 165 SR 13 tyres you should have 11teeth on speedo drive unit.

using tyre size calculator, see if you have tyres that are bigger or smaller than original. if bigger your speedo will show less than you're actually going, and if they're smaller it will show more.
check your actual speed against GPS unit or your friends car (unmodified one).

also, get a 5 speed gearbox as soon as possible, otherwise you'll kill the engine very quickly. bellhousing is the same as on 4speed, mounting piont on the floor is the same, gearbox mount is a bit diferent but it can be made and propshaft coupling is the same as 4sp. all gears are the same as on 4sp so you won't loose anything on acceleration, but you'll have 5th gear with 0.82 ratio which will give you 800rpm lower cruising speed. in my part of the world you'd be looking at around 150e for good used lada 5sp gearbox.
also, you can use 5sp from fiat 124 or 125 but they require a bit more modifications to fit lada.

Yes Pedja...I have 3 different rims but every combination rims-rubbers are at the same total diameter...The stock dimension is 175/70/13...I use 175/60/14 and 195/50/15...
Now, my diff gear is 43/10 and this is the reason that I'm confused...Everything went well and the only change is the gauge...Except for this I saw this difference which I didn't know it...
http://ladapower.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=365&category_id=49&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=87&vmcchk=1&Itemid=87

http://ladapower.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=366&category_id=49&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=87

Anyway, it's not a big deal...I may try again with stock wheels and different speedometer drive gears...

A torsen lsd is on the way including an 41/10 diff...

As you know, I have a TC under my bonnet with lada gearbox...I have 2 fiat 131 gearboxes and I know what is needed to fit at lada,so I prefer to use a Lada 5sp...I can find brand new 5sp Lada gearbox in 450€ so I haven't choose between used or new yet...Whatever happens, I need a 5sp box and I choose to put Lada because it is bolt on conversion...

A friend of mine have a used fiat 124 gearbox with the extention for the gearshift but I know that the 131's boxes are the best and additionally I've read this http://www.mirafiori.com/faq/content/131transswap/131transswap.htm

Pedja, tell me something more because you will know...
the 2L TC's have 215mm flywheel and all the rest 200mm...Except for that, they have different bolts on crankshaft...do you know if (and how) I can use a 200mm flywheel at a 2L engine to combine with Lada gearbox???

you've done your homework then. cool.
lada 5sp is a bit sensitive. won't last long with fiat twincam. it was originaly designed for 75hp and you have a bit more Laughing
that's why i went for a big conversion and installed 131/132 gearbox. it's also quieter and more precise.

about flywheel:
you can use stock lada flywheel on fiat 2 liter engine but boltholes need to be widened from 8mm to 10mm. just go to someone who has a stationary drill and a decent quality drill bit because it's quite hard steel.
fiat 1.6 flywheel might fit 2 liter engine without modification, buut i haven't tryed that yet.

with lada flywheel, fiat 2 liter engine will revv like nuts and clutch plates won't last very long.

You've done the best...This gearbox can deal with almost 300hp...
The 1300 and 1600 TC's have 200mm and 8mm boltholes..same as Lada...The only modification is just the boltholes??? hmmm interesting...

Thanx mate!!!
